Tubular cable lugs

Tubular cable lugs provide an electrical connection between the cable and the electrical device. The cable lugs are used to terminate cables. Unlike the other cable lugs, tubular cable lugs are not stamped and formed from a sheet of metal, but are made from a single piece of tube. Among other things, this process gives them better conductivity.

Tubular cable lugs are available in different dimensions and with different flange holes for bolts. The sizes of the flange holes range from M3 to M20. Possible cable cross-sections range from 0.75 mm² to 120 mm², depending on the tubular cable lug used.

In addition, they are available in a straight version and as angle tubular cable lugs with 45° or 90°.

Processing of tubular cable lugs

Tubular cable lugs must be processed professionally. If this is not the case, there is a risk of loss of performance, which can lead to temperature increases and in the worst case to fire. It is therefore recommended to use the manufacturer's tools for crimping the cable lugs to guarantee a VDE-compliant crimping.

Applications

If stainless steel tubular cable lugs are used, they are suitable for use in the chemical industry or in areas where the cable lug is exposed to seawater. If the stainless steel tubular cable lugs are professionally pressed, they can be used in environments with up to 400°C.

If special tubular cable lugs are used, they are used for e.g. switchgear connections and earth connections. These tubular cable lugs are considerably narrower than the standard tubular cable lugs. However, the special ones are thicker because the same amount of copper is used in the production process as in the standard version.
